Sam (short for Samantha), is one of those rare Frogwomen who had seen my work and contacted me directly. She really wanted to get wet with some of my many suits and masks. Sadly she lives quite a distance away so we were only able to organize a single shoot together. Her first gear choice was the combination of a smooth-skin one-piece wetsuit, together with matching hood and socks. With a Technisub full face mask attached to a Mistral dual-hose regulator strapped tightly to her face. She’d brought along her own rubber riding boots as the location we shoot at is muddy. For comfort (there are lots of sharps stones around the lake), she even wanted to wear them in the water!

I know purists will want to see Sam slide her feet into rubber fins, however the neoprene socks are expensive and get damaged easily by stones and rocks. This is why you’ll see the Frogwomen wearing welly boots most of the time at this location.

Watching this rubbery Frogwoman as she waded, PVC riding boots and all into the water. The sound of her breathing compressed air through a vintage regulator. As the heat builds up from her breath, the mask begins to mist. Sam really loved the way she looked under all the wet rubber!

Behind the scenes

Some behind the scenes footage of Sam. The poor girl was freezing, but nevertheless, she went back and forth, in and out of the water without complaint. Smiling even though her rubber riding boots were full of cold water, lifting her legs individually to empty the boots. Immediately after which she jumped into the car to warm up before we started on the next scene.

Frogwoman Anna – Old and New HD Video Update

Frogwoman Anna – Old and New HD Video Update. See the full length video https://www.hapwater.com/videos

After squeezing herself into the tightest vintage sharkskin drysuit, Frogwoman Anna is all geared up in her authentic retro dive equipment. With a Fenzy BCD, sharkskin neoprene gloves and oval dive mask. However, not everything is as vintage as seen. The Mistral twin-hose regulator may look as if it came straight out of the 1960s, but it’s new and offers all of the reliability and safety expected from modern day diving equipment.

If you would like to own the rare ScubaPro drysuit worn by Anna, it’s available HERE.

Shooting Frogwoman Anna in the snow!

We had no idea when we made our initial filming plan, that on the day of the shoot it was going to be so unbelievably cold! The night before, it started snowing and the mercury plummeted. It was still snowing when we arrived at the lake the following morning.

The first job is always the same, carry all of the heavy gear down to the lakeshore. Back breaking work, but on a morning like this it’s a great way to keep warm. Next, Anna needed to get into the suit. This is always a struggle when girls with long hair meet drysuits, but the vintage ScuabaPro suit is on another level of difficult!

Because it was so cold, she decided it would be best to try and suit-up in the car. After getting her feet into the booties, Anna pulled the suit up to her waist, first left arm in, followed quickly by the right. So far so good. Now she only needed to slide her head through a tight neck seal and into the attached hood before zipping the suit closed.

Manufactured from 8mm shark-skin neoprene, the suit doesn’t really stretch. Curvy Anna was definitely going to fill it very snugly, leaving absolutely no wiggle room. Try as she might, she just couldn’t get her head under the neck seal. Climbing out of the car, she tried again, hopping, pulling, stretching, yanking, grunting. With all of the straining she wasn’t feeling cold anymore! After what seemed like an eternity, there was a loud pop and a squeal of delight as her head finally slid into the hood and she could zip seal the suit tightly closed!

Temperature Control

“Come on! I’m getting cold while you fiddle with that camera!”

If there is one constant in my life, it’s that the girls are either unbelievably hot or incredibly cold when we’re shooting. I have lost count of the times I’ve had to stop filming so they can go and sit in my car with the heating or AC on full blast! However, today was clearly going to be full of hot-water bottles, blankets, quilted clothing and warm mugs of coffee… Not just for Anna, but for me too!

I hope you like reading about the fun we have behind the scenes. Please leave a comment if you’d like to see more posts of this style in the future.

An Argument for Petal Swim Caps

Frogwoman Irina wears her vintage Petal Swim Cap
Russian Frogwoman Irina loves her vintage Petal Swim Cap.

An argument for petal swim caps – why I love them! It might not be obvious to some of you, but I really adore old-fashioned swim caps! Particularly the colorful flower petal variety! But why?

c’est chic, vintage rubber flower petal swim cap worn beautifully by Frogwoman Tatjana

Swim caps were made of rubberized fabric during the early 20th century. By the 1920s, they were made of latex. The earliest chin strap caps were known as “aviator’s style caps” as they resembled the strapped leather helmets of flyers of the day. During the 1940s, swim caps became scarce as rubber was needed for war materials. The ‘permanent wave’ hairstyle took time to obtain and was expensive, so many women wanted to protect their hair while swimming. The 1950s saw decorated caps come into vogue, and during the 1960s colorful flower petal swim caps became popular. Without swim cap requirements, wearing swim caps fell out of fashion during the 1970s. Swim caps are available in different styles, traditional chin strap type with inner sealing to keep out water and colourful floral styles reminiscent of the 1960s as well as other graphic prints. (source. Wikipedia.org)

So apart from looking c’est chic, they do serve an actual purpose. Not only making sure hair stays dry(ish), but also in keeping a nice warm head! Women with long hair know how long it takes for wet hair to dry, so why not just pull on a fashionable petal swim cap and avoid all of that bother after a fun day at the beach or pool?

Vintage flower petal swim cap.
Touchy-feely rubber petals, anyone?

It’s all about feelings…

Whereas normal undecorated swim caps may look sleek and sporty, pretty flower petal caps are an absolute joy to touch and feel. The soft rubbery petals slip through the fingers with an addictive tickling sensation. The way the little rubber petals move in a light breeze, delightful. As she dives underwater the pressure pushes the cap tightly to her head. Finally reaching the surface and ripping off the glistening rubber cap to reveal her radiant hair. Glamorous, feminine and sexy.

Taking it up a level!

Full head and face petal swim cap, well that’s a world first!

So how about a full head and face petal swim cap? Obviously it’s in no way practical. Any girl wearing it would be unable to see or breathe (unless there is a little hole for her to suck in some air), but that could be fun!? So with this in mind, I commissioned a one of a kind petal swim cap in rose pink. OK, this might not be to everybody’s taste, but I found the results striking and alluring.

So how did the lucky lady in the smooth-skin wetsuit, rubber riding boots and, with her head fully enveloped in tight rubbery petals find the experience? Very HOT! She couldn’t see a thing, barely hear anything and as for breathing; short of breath would be an understatement. So as an experiment it was jolly good fun, but I am sadly not expecting to see this bizarre combination down at the beach or pool any day soon.

In conclusion

So there you have it, vintage rubber flower petal swim caps. I can’t get enough of them and now you know why! I would love to hear your thoughts on swim caps, are you for or against? Please leave me a comment below.

Maria Perschy in a rubber suit!

Maria Perschy poses for promotional pictures in the tightest of rubber suits!

Browsing Ebay, I stumbled across a contact sheet of photos of an unknown woman in a black rubber suit. Upon closer inspection it became clear that this was the Austrian actress Maria Perschy. In the classic film “Man’s Favorite Sport” (1964) Maria Perschy stars together with Paula Prentis and Rock Hudson. The film finds the two ladies snorkelling together in the tightest of rubber suits!

Watching this pair of beautiful women awkwardly exit the lake in their flippers and swim caps. They stand and talk together, with rubber clad bodies still dripping wet, masks and snorkels perched on their rubber capped heads. A short sequence maybe, but one that has left an impression on me that survives until today.

Making it onto my list of top films, “Man’s Favorite Sport” still wields a considerable influence upon my creative output!

Over the coming months I’ll be posting all of the pictures on my blog. Don’t forget to come back often to see more of Maria posing in her lovely rubber suit!

Man’s Favorite Sport Synopsis – Roger Willoughby is considered to be a leading expert on sports fishing. He’s written books on the subject and is loved by his customers in the sporting goods department at Abercrombie and Fitch, where he works. There’s only one problem however: he’s never been fishing in his life. When the store owner enters him in a fishing contest, mayhem ensues. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058324/mediaviewer/rm179620097/

Just look at this, wow, she’s just washed up on the beach. A gorgeous French Frogwoman, covered from head to toe in her smooth rubbery wetsuit. Exhausted after a long dive she sits in the surf with the sun warming her black neoprene covered skin, as sand forms complex shapes around her legs and flippers. You can see more of her in the September update! But that’s not all! Check out the first part of a two part 4K video featuring Frogwoman Anne. What Motivates Me?

For those of you who don’t know anything about me, let me tell you of some of the things that inspire and motivate my work.

Vintage SCUBA women inspire my work
Code 7… Victim 5 (1964)

I’ve been taking pictures of beautiful Frogwomen since the late 1980s! Originally with a film camera and now a DSLR. Influenced by films from the 1960s and 70s where beautiful women would wear tight form fitting rubber wetsuits, almost always combined with twin-hose regulators and oval dive masks. Not afraid to look sexy in their smooth beavertail wetsuits, with fashionable petal bathing caps protecting their long hair, a vision of these powerful women was burnt brightly into my then young impressionable imagination!

Some of the films that have inspired me: Man’s Favorite Sport, Code 7… Victim 5, James Bond (particularly Thunderball), Fantastic Voyage

As modern diving equipment has evolved it has become much safer and more comfortable to use, but for me at least, it has lost the pure and simple attraction of the vintage gear.

It has long been my goal to revisit those more innocent years, when SCUBA diving was an extraordinary and exciting activity for a young woman, where the diving suits and equipment accentuated the female form. In conclusion, I present to you my life work…
